Agreements on transfer of persons sentenced to imprisonment, extradition and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters executed during the official visit of Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, in Argentina

On July 12, 2014 in Buenos Aires Alexander Konovalov, the Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation, and Héctor Timerman, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Argentina, executed the Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Argentine Republic on Transfer of Persons Sentenced to Imprisonment, the Extradition Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Argentine Republic, and the Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Argentine Republic on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters.

These agreements cover the issues of cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Argentina, which have hitherto remained unresolved at the bilateral level.

These agreements determine the scope of legal assistance provided in criminal matters, establish requirements for the form and the content of legal assistance requests, the grounds for refusal or delay in providing legal assistance, govern the procedure of transferring persons sentenced to imprisonment for serving sentence, establish the parties’ mutual obligation to extradite persons for criminal prosecution or execution of their sentence at the request of the contracting state.

The agreements were signed as part of the official visit of the President of the Russian Federation in Argentina.
